Our veterinarians provide many surgical services ranging from routine to advanced procedures. We offer spaying, neutering, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, cystotomy surgery, and many more. Our patients undergoing surgery are placed on intravenous fluids to maintain their blood pressure and prevent dehydration. They are surrounded by a heating blanket called a “bair hugger” which prevents hypothermia while under anesthetic. They also receive pain medication, are closely monitored by a Registered Veterinary Technologist, and an advanced monitoring system that checks blood pressure, oxygen levels, body temperature, ECG, heart rate, and respiratory rate.

Do you specialize in any surgeries?

Dr. Lisa Lomsnes performs Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) repair surgery and Luxating Patella surgery. The CCL surgery involves repairing the ligament located in the knee and the patella surgery involves altering an abnormal kneecap. With both, you may notice your dog limping and having an abnormal walk or run. It often looks like your dog is skipping on the injured leg. If your dog is limping it is a sign of pain. What are the benefits of pre-anesthetic blood work?

Because anesthesia is one of the risks of the surgery we recommend performing pre-anesthetic blood work prior to surgery. The pre-anesthetic blood work checks your dog’s organ functions, mainly the liver and kidneys where anesthetic drugs are filtered. If the blood results are abnormal, the anesthetic will be changed or, the surgery may be rescheduled for a later date. By analyzing these results our veterinarians are provided with vital information about your dog. If the blood work is normal it provides a baseline result for them if they become ill.
