Vaccinations

Vaccines, starting in the first few weeks, protect your cat against otherwise harmful diseases.

At Lomsnes Veterinary Hospital, we believe vaccinations and annual exams are an essential part of your cat’s health and longevity. Adult cats require a yearly wellness exam, regular deworming, and vaccinations every three years. By immunizing your cat against possible illness, you not only protect them from getting sick but you help control the spread of contagious diseases. Along with the vaccine, your cat will receive a wellness exam from one of our veterinarians. This includes checking ears, eyes, teeth, heart, lungs, abdomen, joints, weight, growths and overall body condition. The veterinarian is also your best source of advice regarding deworming products, nutrition, and behaviour. Remember prevention is the best medicine!

Does my indoor cat need to be vaccinated?

Absolutely. Indoor cats have a weaker immune system compared to outdoor cats as they are not being stimulated by antigens (diseases) found in the environment.

What is FVRCP and core vaccine for cats?

FVRCP is a combination of three diseases – Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Panleukopenia. This is considered a core or main vaccine that is given to kittens and adults.

How often does my adult cat need vaccinations?

At Lomsnes Veterinary Hospital we recommend vaccinating your adult cat every 3 years. Along with the vaccinations, a nose to tail wellness exam is performed by one of our veterinarians and a dewormer is sent home based on your cat’s lifestyle.

Are there any risks associated with vaccines?

Occasionally, as with people, the leg where the vaccine is given may be a bit sore. In extremely rare cases cats can have a reaction causing vomiting and swollen face. If your cat has a reaction to a vaccine please contact Lomsnes Veterinary Hospital.
