Ensuring the safety of your cat during surgical procedures is our utmost priority.
Our veterinarians provide many surgical services ranging from routine to advanced procedures. We offer spaying, neutering, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, cystotomy surgery, and many more. Our patients undergoing surgery are placed on intravenous fluids to maintain their blood pressure and prevent dehydration. They are surrounded by a heating blanket called a “bair hugger” which prevents hypothermia while under anesthetic. They also receive pain medication, are closely monitored by a Registered Veterinary Technologist and an advanced monitoring system that checks blood pressure, carbon dioxide levels, oxygen levels, body temperature, ECG, heart rate, and respiratory rate.
Because anesthesia is one of the risks of the surgery we recommend performing pre-anesthetic bloodwork prior to surgery. The pre-anesthetic bloodwork checks your cat’s organ functions, mainly the liver and kidneys where anesthetic drugs are filtered. If the blood results are abnormal, the anesthetic will be changed or, the surgery may be rescheduled for a later date. By analyzing these results our veterinarians are provided with vital information about your cat. If the bloodwork is normal it provides a baseline result for them if they become ill. Our veterinarians will explain in detail the results of your cat’s bloodwork. If you have any questions about bloodwork for your cat, please contact Lomsnes Veterinary Hospital.
